We had a lovely afternoon at the International Women’s Day Afternoon Tea & Talk in Congleton Town Hall. The amazing Barbara Andrew gave a compelling talk on Suffragists and Suffragettes of Cheshire, the struggles, hardships, battles and utimate triumph of getting the vote.
We felt proud that the Cheshire movement was largely started by our own Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy, initiating the Congleton Suffrage Society with a speech to 1000 people in the very same room we sat in – the Great Hall of the Town Hall. Other Cheshire towns followed suit.
Sarah Russell MP and Congleton’s Mayor, Cllr Kay Wesley, also attended.
